The slippery eight loop is known — despite the name — to have an extraordinary ability to not slip and it is extremely secure when the legs are at less than a 90-degree angle. The man who created this knot, Dave Poston, requests that the name of the knot include "HFP" in order to honor his father, who originally introduced him to knots.
The artillery loop [1] is a knot with a loop on the bight for non-critical purposes. The artillery loop must have the loop loaded or it will slip and contract easily. It is an inferior knot to the alpine butterfly knot, [2] possibly dangerously so, in that it can be yanked out of shape and turn into a running knot or noose.
Lariat loop a.k.a. honda knot – loop knot commonly used in a lasso; Lark's foot (Lark's head, cow hitch) used to attach a rope to an object; Lapp knot; Left-hand bowline (cowboy bowline) – variation of the bowline loop knot; Ligature knot a.k.a. surgeon's knot – simple modification to the reef knot that adds an extra twist when tying the ...
The slipped Lapp knot can also be used as a binding knot for bundles or rolls (or a bathrobe). Its advantage over the reef knot is that the finished knot can be tightened by pulling the slip loop and end (C+E) and the working end A in opposite directions, or loosened by pulling B instead of A. When releasing C+E, it pulls tight again.
It will hold fast when loaded, but slip when shock loaded until tension is relieved enough for it to again hold fast. It serves the same purpose as the taut-line hitch, e.g. tensioning a tent's guy line. This knot is also called the adjustable loop [1] and Cawley adjustable hitch. It was conceived 1982 by Canadian climber Robert Chisnall.
A Yosemite bowline is made from a bowline with the free end wrapped around one leg of the loop and tucked back through the knot, a final round turn and reeve commonly known as a "Yosemite finish." The knot's security is enhanced by preventing the bowline capsizing to form a highly dangerous slip knot. Additional safety is achieved by tying with ...

As a midline loop knot made with a bight, it is related to several other similar knots, including the alpine butterfly knot and artillery loop. If pulled with one hand holding one end, the other hand holding the start side of the loop that is the continuation of the same end, [clarification needed] before tightening the knot of the loop, it may ...
