DisplayPort connector A DisplayPort port (top right) on a laptop from 2010, near an Ethernet port (center) and a USB port (bottom right) DisplayPort (DP) is a proprietary [a] digital display interface developed by a consortium of PC and chip manufacturers and standardized by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA).
The original FreeSync is based over DisplayPort 1.2a, using an optional feature that VESA terms Adaptive-Sync. [9] [10] This feature was in turn ported by AMD from a Panel-Self-Refresh (PSR) feature from Embedded DisplayPort 1.0, [11] which allows panels to control its own refreshing intended for power-saving on laptops. There is also the problem that all Apple laptop products, presumably in order to reduce switching time, when confronted with an HDCP-compliant sink device, automatically enable HDCP encryption from the HDMI / Mini DisplayPort / USB-C connector port.
However, according to Microsoft as of 2009, only about 1–2 percent of the hardware running Windows Vista used the XDDM, [10] with the rest already WDDM capable. It also requires some other hardware features; consequently some SM 2.0-supporting hardware such as the Intel GMA 900 fails the WDDM certification. [11]
Display Data Channel (DDC) is a collection of protocols for digital communication between a computer display and a graphics adapter that enable the display to communicate its supported display modes to the adapter and that enable the computer host to adjust monitor parameters, such as brightness and contrast.

Is it really the case that DisplayPort and Mini Display port are not compatibile? There is a (as of Feb 14, 2009) uncited statement indicating that you can't connect the two together. If that is the case, then DisplayPort and Mini-Display port are unrelated to each other, as far as I'm concerned, and it's unclear why they even have the same name.
[18] [19] They also stated: "Legacy interfaces such as VGA, DVI and LVDS have not kept pace, and newer standards such as DisplayPort and HDMI clearly provide the best connectivity options moving forward. In our opinion, DisplayPort 1.2 is the future interface for PC monitors, along with HDMI 1.4a for TV connectivity".
