The house was built for $10,000 in 1859 by Ebenezer Maxwell (1827–1870), a wealthy cloth merchant. The masonry building is two-and-a-half stories, with a three-story tower. The main roof is mansard, with slate covering. The house features three porches and four stone chimneys.
They persuaded the owners of the Maxwell House Hotel to serve their coffee, and they use the name of the hotel as their coffee brand. [1] They began using the slogan "good to the last drop" in 1917. [1] In 1928, Cheek sold the brand to Postum Co. for $42 million; it was subsequently purchased by General Foods. [1]

Arbuckle's company closed in 1935. It was sold and combined with Maxwell House, which would later join General Foods. In 1994, a company based in Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania, resurrected the Arbuckle name. [3] [11] Another company based in Tucson, Arizona, have sold coffee under the Arbuckle name since 1979.
