Dhaka Polytechnic Institute (Bengali: ঢাকা পলিটেকনিক ইনস্টিটিউট, also known as DPI) is a government technical institute in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the largest and the oldest polytechnic academia in modern Bangladesh.
It is one of the top PhD granting research universities of Bangladesh. [5] The university requires diploma engineers candidates, graduated from polytechnic institutes or technical schools affiliated by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board for under-graduation enrollment.
The Bangladesh Technical Education Board is a state regulatory board responsible for monitoring and developing technical and vocational education in the secondary level (), 2-year higher secondary level (HSC/Vocational), 4-year Diploma in Agriculture, 4-year Diploma in Engineering degree and 4-year Diploma in Medical Technology degree throughout the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The establishment of the university was an upgrade of the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (IPGMR). IPGMR was established in December 1965 as a government-controlled postgraduate institute for medical research and studies. It was housed in Hotel Shahbag, which is now defunct and was once the biggest hotel in Dhaka.

The late A.B.M Mafizul Islam Patwari is recognized by the Government of Bangladesh as the founder of the university.
