Your comments might be more suited to the Radio Four or In Our Time message boards I think you misunderstand the premise of the programme. Melvyn is usually out as much out of his depth as many of his listeners. He brings up the points in his notes to steer the contributors to expound on the subject for the benefit of the listeners.
