The face of downtown Terre Haute began to change in the late 1960s when Interstate 70 was built, passing through Vigo County about 5 mi (8.0 km) south of the path of U.S. 40 Wabash Avenue). As traffic began to concentrate at the U.S. 41 interchange, many downtown businesses relocated to Honey Creek Mall shopping center, built in 1968.
State Normal Library, also known as the Normal Hall, is a historic library building located on the campus of Indiana State University at Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. It was built between 1907 and 1909, and is a three-story, Classical Revival style brick and limestone building. An addition was constructed in 1957, creating an "L"-plan.
It encompasses 1,110 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Terre Haute. It developed between about 1850 and 1935, with most built between 1890 and 1920, and includes representative examples of Greek Revival , Italianate , Queen Anne , and Colonial Revival style architecture.
