The Puyallup River (/ p juː ˈ æ l ə p / pyew-AL-əp) is a river in the U.S. state of Washington.About 45 miles (72 km) long, it is formed by glaciers on the west side of Mount Rainier.

Puyallup (/ p juː ˈ æ l ə p / ⓘ pew-AL-əp) is a city in Pierce County, Washington, United States. It is on the Puyallup River about 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Tacoma and 35 miles (56 km) south of Seattle. The city had a population of 42,973 at the 2020 census. [6]

The McMillin Bridge (also known as the Puyallup River Bridge [2]) is a concrete half-through truss bridge crossing the Puyallup River, in Pierce County, Washington, built in 1934. The main span of the bridge is 170 feet (52 m) long, which was the longest beam span or concrete truss in the US when it was built.
The name "Puyallup" is an anglicization of the Lushootseed word spuyaləpabš.The name means "people of the bend (at the bottom of the river)," [2] literally s√puy=áləp=abš, from the root √puy̓, 'curve'; the suffix =alap, 'leg or hip'; and the suffix =abš, 'people', [1] and refers to the way that the Puyallup people live on the winding river.
