The Victor Talking Machine Company was an American recording company and phonograph manufacturer, incorporated in 1901. Victor was an independent enterprise until 1929 when it was purchased by the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and became the RCA Victor Division of the Radio Corporation of America until late 1968, when it was renamed RCA Records.
In the spring of 1946, "RCA Victor" replaced "Victor" on its record labels. In 1949, RCA Victor introduced the 7-inch 45 rpm micro-grooved vinylite record, marketed simply as the "45". The new format, which had been under development for over a decade, was originally intended to replace 78 rpm discs. [17]
In 1949, RCA Victor released the first 45 rpm "single" records, as a response to Columbia Records successful introduction of its microgroove 33 1 ⁄ 3 rpm "LP" format in 1948. As RCA Victor adopted Columbia's 33 1 ⁄ 3 rpm LP records in 1950, [32] [33] Columbia then adopted RCA Victor's 45 rpm records. [34]
The Daily Mirror and other sources reported a Rare Record Price Guide story in April 2015 that a David A. Stewart 'Test' 78 from 1965 was worth £30,000. A copy of Joseph Beuys' 100-only 'multiple' reel-to-reel edition of Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee album from 1969 was valued at over £30,000. [21]

RCA Camden was a budget record label of RCA Victor, originally created in 1953 [1] to reissue recordings from earlier 78rpm releases. The label was named "Camden", after Camden, New Jersey where the offices, factories and studios of RCA Victor and its predecessor, the Victor Talking Machine Company had been located since 1901.
