The St. Joseph's Catholic Church is a chapel and former parish in the "Old Town" of Pocatello, Idaho. Built in 1897, it is Pocatello's oldest surviving church and was deemed significant "a rare nineteenth century example" of an Idaho church built of stone. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. [1]
The community continued to operate schools throughout Idaho over the next half-century, including St. Gertrude's Academy in Cottonwood, which closed in 1970. [4] The former campus is now home to Prairie Junior/Senior High School. The community celebrated its centennial in 2009. [5]

De Smet celebrated the mass in Idaho in July 1840 at Henry's Lake. [1] Nicholas Point in 1843 constructed the Cataldo Mission along the St. Joe River near present-day St. Maries. It was the first mission church in Idaho. The Cataldo Mission later moved to its present location on the Coeur d'Alene River. It is the oldest building in Idaho.
