A quantity surveyor (QS) is a construction industry professional with expert knowledge on construction costs and contracts.Qualified professional quantity surveyors can be known as Chartered Surveyors (Members and Fellows of RICS) in the UK and Certified Quantity Surveyors (a designation of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors) in Australia and other countries.
The profession of land surveying was not regulated in British Columbia until the late 1800s. [6] Before 1891, the provincial government recognized a cadre of professional Surveyors - many of whom had been Royal Engineers [6] In 1890, the Association of Provincial Land Surveyors was launched during a two-day long meeting held in Victoria and attended by 22 surveyors. The Association of Canada Lands Surveyors was officially incorporated on May 24, 1985, and began an initiative to become self-regulating. ACLS assumed its responsibilities as a national, self-regulating Association on March 18, 1999, when the Canada Lands Surveyors Act came into force.
