Louis M. Groen (August 8, 1917 – May 30, 2011) was an American entrepreneur, businessman, and lifelong resident of Cincinnati, Ohio. Groen invented the Filet-O-Fish sandwich in 1962. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] He invented the sandwich at his struggling McDonald's restaurant to satisfy his customers.
According to Louis' Lunch, the hamburger was created in 1900 in response to a customer's hurried request for a lunch to go. In 1917, Louis moved the business into a square-shaped brick building that had once been a tannery. [2] In 1975, the restaurant was moved four blocks down to 263 Crown Street.
Brothers Charles and Louis Burger had been in the malting business in Cincinnati after immigrating from Germany. Opening their company, Burger Brothers Malting Company in 1880, it was family run for decades. Once Prohibition ended the company, now led by president W.J. Huster, felt it was time to directly enter the brewing business. [2]
