Bergen County Academies was conceived by John Grieco. The school was founded on a vocational school framework with the mission of preparing students for careers in math and science by promoting a problem-solving, project-based, technical learning environment.
For the 2010-2011 school year, 168 students out of 1,500 applicants were accepted into Bergen County Technical High School, Teterboro's Class of 2015, for an acceptance rate of 11.2%.
The school is part of the Bergen County Technical Schools, which also includes Bergen County Academies in Hackensack and the Bergen County Technical High School, Teterboro Campus. As of the 2023–24 school year, the school had an enrollment of 277 students and 47.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 5.9:1.
