The 2024–25 CAF Champions League, officially the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League for sponsorship reasons, [1] is the 61st season of Africa's premier club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the 29th under the CAF Champions League title.
The 2024–25 CAF Champions League knockout stage will start on 1 April with the quarter-finals and end on 1 June 2025 with the second leg of the final to decide the champions of the 2024–25 CAF Champions League. 8 teams will compete in the knockout stage. Times are local.
The 2024–25 CAF Champions League group stage began on 26 November 2024 and ended on 19 January 2025. 16 teams competed in the group stage to decide the eight places in the knockout stage of the 2024–25 CAF Champions League.
The draw for the qualifying rounds was held on 11 July 2024, 12:00 GMT (15:00 local time, UTC+3), at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. [1] [2]The entry round of the 59 teams entered into the draw was determined by their performances in the CAF competitions for the previous five seasons (CAF 5-year ranking points shown in parentheses).
After 2018 edition CAF moved its club competitions to autumn-spring format, meaning that editions after 2018 were played through two years (e.g. 2018–19, 2019–20). In the table below 2019 stands for 2018–19 season, 2020 for 2019–20 season and so on. Teams are sorted by number of appearances.
The teams were seeded by their performances in the CAF competitions for the previous five seasons (CAF 5-year ranking points shown next to every team). Each group contained one team from Pot 1 and one from Pot 2, with two groups including one team from Pot 3 and one from Pot 4, and the remaining two groups featuring two teams from Pot 4.
The winners, Al Ahly automatically qualified for the 2024–25 CAF Champions League and earned the right to play against the winners of the 2023–24 CAF Confederation Cup in the 2024 CAF Super Cup. [2] They also qualified for the brand new 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
