It also represents the historical flag of Francoist Spain from 1936 to 1938, which was proclaimed on 29 August 1936, the "Junta de Defensa Nacional", in Decree No. 77, stating: "The red and gold/yellow bicolour flag is re-established as the flag of Spain".
