The California State Open is the California state open golf tournament, open to both amateur and professional golfers. It is organized by the Southern California section of the PGA of America. It was first played in 1900 and has been played at a variety of courses around the state. It was considered a PGA Tour event in the 1920s and 1930s.
Steve Oppermann (born January 31, 1942) [1] [2] is an American professional golfer.Oppermann had a sterling amateur career, being regarded as "one of the most talented amateurs in the West," [3] culminating with victories at two "blue ribbon" events, [4] the 1964 Western Amateur and California State Amateur Championship.
It hosted the 1992 Fresno Open, a tournament on the Ben Hogan Tour, won by Mike Springer. It served as the final PGA Tour qualifying school course to earn a tour card in 1980. [ 5 ] [ 6 ] In 2001, Fort Washington co-hosted the U.S. Mid-Amateur Golf Championship , along with San Joaquin Country Club.
