The Bayshore Railway company was founded as a subsidiary of the Southern Pacific to build the Bayshore Cutoff. [12] Construction started in 1904 [ 13 ] and was completed in 1907 [ 14 ] at a cost of $7 million [ 15 ] (equivalent to $167 million in 2023 [ 16 ] ), one of the most expensive rail lines constructed to date.
