Terlingua Common School District (TCSD) is a public school district based in unincorporated Brewster County, in the U.S. state of Texas. Its only school, Big Bend High School , is located adjacent to the Study Butte census-designated place , and with a Terlingua postal address.
Prior to 1996 Alpine High School of the Alpine Independent School District served as the high school for students from Terlingua CSD. [8] Beginning in the 1960s, students took school buses to and from Alpine, [9] with the bus ride being the longest in the United States, [8] with both directions totaling 160 miles (260 km).
Terlingua (/ t ər ˈ l ɪ ŋ ɡ w ə / tər-LING-gwə) is a mining district and census-designated place (CDP) in southwestern Brewster County, Texas, United States. It is located near the Rio Grande and the villages of Lajitas and Study Butte, Texas , as well as the Mexican state of Chihuahua .
Study Butte-Terlingua is served by the Terlingua Common School District. Big Bend High School is the local school. Prior to fall 1996 students at the high school level attended Alpine High School in the Alpine Independent School District. [18] Previously the Terlingua CSD had Big Bend High and Terlingua Elementary as separate schools. [19]
Study Butte is located in southern Brewster County. The Terlingua CDP borders Study Butte to the southwest. Texas State Highway 118 passes through Study Butte and leads 3.7 miles (6.0 km) southeast to the west entrance to Big Bend National Park and 78 miles (126 km) north to the city of Alpine.
The road from Terlingua through Study Butte to SH 227 was re-designated as Spur 121 until that designation was canceled in 1946. The portion within the newly created Big Bend National Park was incorporated into the park's road system. The remainder between Terlingua to the park boundary near Study Butte reverted to county maintenance. [18]

Arick Village is the unofficial name of a portion of the Terlingua Ranch unincorporated community [1] located in Brewster County, Texas, United States. Arick Village is located east of Highway 118, and west of 9-Point Mesa (outside of Terlingua). Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park are located nearby.
