The M4 carbine barrel is 368 mm (14.5 in) and the XM8 barrel is 317 mm (12.5 in) but the rifles have the same overall length. Although a shorter barrel generally results in lower muzzle velocity, Polygonal rifling partially compensates for the loss of velocity from a shorter barrel. An electronic round counter was proposed for the XM8.
It had a range of up to 110 nautical miles (200 km; 130 mi), and was intended to allow US Air Force strategic bombers to penetrate Soviet airspace by neutralizing surface-to-air missile defenses. The SRAM was designed to replace the older AGM-28 Hound Dog standoff missile which was tasked with the same basic role.
The weapon needed to fly fast enough and far enough that the bomber was at a safe distance when the weapon reached the target. If the American missile was to be used to attack enemy air bases as well, an extended range of several hundred kilometers would be needed due to the much longer range of the fighters compared to the SAMs.

The HK93 is a variant based upon the HK43 that was imported to the United States. The name change was reportedly based on several factors including the changes in barrel length to comply with US import laws and changes in H&K's own nomenclature system. Approximately 200 HK43 rifles were imported to America prior to 1974. [1]
The MP7 uses a short-stroke piston gas system as is used on H&K's G36 and HK416 in place of a blowback system traditionally seen on submachine guns. [10] The 4.6×30mm ammunition is exclusive to the gun and offers low recoil. [7]
The gun was available in 3" and 4" version. Some more interesting guns then began to be made, and the "Texas Scout" also became available in .45 blank. Herbert Schmidt then also made a double-action revolver, the "Buffalo Combo", a .38 - .22lr convertible. Some time in the late 1990s, the company disappeared.
