Engine Company 261 was established as Long Island City Fire Department's Engine Company 3 in 1894. It was renumbered after Long Island City was annexed by New York City in 1913. [4] In 2003, Engine Company 261 was closed as a cost-saving measure. [5] The closure was one of six announced by Michael Bloomberg, on May 26, 2003. [6]

Robert Moses State Park - Long Island is a 875-acre (3.54 km 2) state park in southern Suffolk County, New York. [3] The park lies on the western end of Fire Island, one of the central barrier islands off the southern coast of Long Island, and is known for its five-mile (8.0 km) stretch of beaches on the Atlantic Ocean.
Kismet is a hamlet in the Town of Islip, in Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is the westernmost beach community on Fire Island, immediately west of Saltaire and east of the Fire Island Lighthouse. Kismet is accessible by road or on foot via Robert Moses State Park to the west, or by ferry from Bay Shore on Long Island. [1] [2]
Cherry Grove dates its modern history to the 1868 purchase by Archer and Elizabeth Perkinson. They bought the land between Lone Hill (now Fire Island Pines) and the Cherry Grove Hotel from the ocean to the bay for 25 cents per acre and named the area for the black-cherry trees in the area. [3]
