Powerpistol, or Cfe, would be good choices for the 9mm, but you might want to also consider Universal, or WSF, as some other options, as you already load for other calibers. Universal would work in most of those. Just something to consider, as it would be nice to have one powder that works for more than one cartridge. Like.
My favorite in 124gr 9mm is Hodgdon HS-6 with a CCI 550 Small Pistol Magnum primer. Slightly below max charge under a 124gr XTP gives 1200-1250fps in my 4" pistols with no pressure issues and good accuracy. FWIW-CCI 550 Small Pistol Magnum primer is same thing as CCI 400 Small Rifle primer. This is the only brand/model direct substitution I ...
Rock185. 4122 posts · Joined 2002. #12 · May 4, 2014. I have owned and operated 9MM 1911s for quite a few years, to include multiple Colts, Kimbers, Dan Wessons, Springfield and STI. Within my humble experience, the later 9MM 1911s with the factory, or custom fitted, ramp style barrels tend run reliably with any quality magazine.
My ammo selection has been based on performance (accuracy/precision) and price rather than reliability. I have found my 1911 really performs best with 124gr 9mm. Groups are much tighter than with any 115gr rounds I've tried. Of course, 124gr rounds tend to be more difficult to find at a good (low) price.
Paul . One of the problems during the early years of 9mm, 147 grain development was the lack of suitable powders to meet factory specs with "reloader's" powders. Today there are so many more suitable powders. You'll want something in HS 6 range for mid range to factory velocities (980fps Win147 grain).
Tom Freeman said: For me, Clays was a failure in the accuracy dept. I was using a Chambers Custom 1911 PPC pistol from a Ransom Rest at 50 yards. That is 10 shots. 231 was pretty good, but Power Pistol was the best. If you push 9mm bullets, accuracy tightens right up. That's about as good as 9mm gets at 50 yards.
My favorite load for 9mm is... 125gr LCRN / 3.7gr Titegroup and CCi primers in range brass. This seems to work really well in my Springfield 1911 9mm. "best", defined as most accurate and reliable; 3.9 gr. TiteGroup with 124 gr. HAP or PD, range brass and CCI SPP at 1.140" COAL (from throated Kart 1911barrel).
I carry a Sig 228 daily, and currently am carrying the 115 gr +P Triton Quick-Shock. From reading posts over on the Tactical Forum, it appears that the ideal 9mm round is the 147 gr JHP, with the Winchester Ranger 147 gr SXT (RA9T) and the Federal 147 gr JHP (9MS) being the two recommended rounds. In speaking with some colleagues, it was ...
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence in their behalf. - George Orwell. Look for a Colt, either the Combat Commander (steel frame) or the Commander (aluminum frame) in either 9mm or 38 Super. Have a carry bevel job, sights, a true hi-rise beavertail grip safety, an extended or ambi thumb ...
Short dust cover and bushing barrel is the way to go for a doublestack 1911, IMO. It can be used in IDPA ESP, USPSA Limited (Minor), and is a great fit for Steel Challenge as well. The absence of the extra muzzle weight makes very little difference with the recoil of 9mm, at least in my hands.
