This is a list of wineries in Missouri. [1] German immigrants in the early-to-mid-19th century founded the wine industry in Missouri, resulting in its wine corridor being called the Missouri "Rhineland". Later Italian immigrants also entered wine production. In the mid-1880s, more wine was produced by volume in Missouri than in any other state.
A revival period occurred in the 1960s that led to the founding of many of the area's current wineries. [7] At the turn of the 21st century, wines from the Augusta AVA were exported to Germany. In 2003, Augusta Winery's 2001 Chardonel won "Best US wine" from the German wine magazine Selection at their yearly competition in Mainz. [7]
In the mid-1880s, more wine was produced by volume in Missouri than in any other state. Before prohibition, Missouri was the second-largest wine-producing state in the nation. Missouri had the first area recognized as a federally designated American Viticultural Area with the Augusta AVA acknowledged on June 20, 1980. [2]
Breweries in Missouri produce a wide range of beers in different styles that are marketed locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The greatest concentration of breweries is in the Greater St. Louis area, which is home to at least 65 different breweries, including a number of brewpubs and microbreweries.
Cliff Cave Park is a 525-acre public park located in St. Louis County, Missouri. [1] The park is owned and operated by the St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation. [1] [2] It is named after Cliff Cave, a natural cave located in the park that is a historical and archaeologic site. [3]
