For the first five miles the route is extremely narrow, narrowing down to 1.5 lanes in some cases. As a consequence, the speed limit is a low 25 mph. [4] Later, the speed limit rises to 35 mph. Briefly at the highway interchange with Florida State Road 404, the road is a divided four lane road. [5]
As of May 15, 2017, 41 states have maximum speed limits of 70 mph (113 km/h) or higher. 18 of those states have 75 miles per hour (121 km/h) speed limits or higher, while 7 states of that same portion have 80 mph (129 km/h) speed limits, with Texas even having an 85 miles per hour (137 km/h) speed limit on one of its toll roads.
Stretching 148 miles (238 km) across the Florida peninsula, State Road 70 (SR 70) spans five Florida counties and straddles the northern boundaries of two more. Its western terminus is at US 41 (14th Street West) south of Bradenton (Manatee County); its eastern terminus is an intersection of Virginia Avenue and South Fourth Street (U.S. Route 1/SR 5) in Fort Pierce (St. Lucie County).

State Road 46 (SR 46) is an east–west route in central Florida, running from U.S. Route 441 (US 441) in Mount Dora to US 1 in Mims. Along the way, it crosses the Wekiva River and, further east, the St. Johns River near the Econlockhatchee River. County Road 46 continues west from the western terminus to County Road Old 441 in Mount Dora.
As a result of the 1945 Florida State Road renumbering, the route became State Road 80 from Fort Myers to Palm Beach, and the segment west of Fort Myers to Punta Rassa became State Road 867. (Ironically, State Road 25 still applies today to the concurrency with US 27 as that is now US 27’s hidden designation). [10]
