Terrell is located in northern Kaufman County. U.S. Route 80 passes through the city center, leading west to Dallas and east 15 miles (24 km) to Wills Point. Interstate 20 passes through the south side of the city, leading west 19 miles (31 km) to Interstate 635 in the southeastern suburbs of Dallas (Balch Springs) and east 27 miles (43 km) to Canton.

In 1905, Terrell County was created by the Texas Legislature by carving about 1,500,000 acres (6,100 km 2) out of Pecos County. It was organized the same year. Sanderson became the county seat. In 1881, Texas and New Orleans Railroad surveyors reached the site of present-day Sanderson.

Poetry is a town in Kaufman and Hunt counties, Texas, United States. [1] It is located at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 986 and 1565, approximately six miles north of Terrell. [2] The population, as of 2020, is estimated to be 2,069. Originally known as Turner's Point, a post office and school were established in 1858. [3]
