Lake Guntersville State Park is a public recreation area located on the far north side of the city of Guntersville in Marshall County, Alabama. The state park occupies 5,909 acres (2,391 ha) on the eastern shore of Guntersville Lake , a 69,000-acre (28,000 ha) impoundment of the Tennessee River .
The ballpark has a capacity of 3,100 people and opened in the early 20th century. The Huntington Cubs first season was 1990. The field was upgraded to a point for the Huntington Cubs but the lack of commitment from the city of Huntington and the local park board pushed the Chicago Cubs organization to move the team elsewhere.
Huntington is the second-most populous city in West Virginia. The Huntington–Ashland metropolitan area, spanning seven counties across West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio, had an estimated population of 368,262 in 2023. Surrounded by extensive natural resources, the area was first settled in 1775 as Holderby's Landing.
The lake stretches 75 miles (121 km) from Guntersville Dam to Nickajack Dam. It is Alabama's largest lake at 69,100 acres (279.6 km 2). [1] It is separated by the Guntersville Dam from Wheeler Lake, which at 68,300 acres (276.4 km 2) is Alabama's second largest lake. Both lakes are part of the Tennessee River.
