Westgate Collegiate & Vocational Institute is a Canadian high school in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It is one of three secondary schools in the Lakehead Public Schools system, after the closure of Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate & Vocational Institute in June 2018. September 11.

The Lakehead District School Board is the largest, with 22 elementary schools, 3 secondary schools and a centre for adult studies. The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board is the second largest with 16 elementary schools, 3 middle schools and 2 high schools.
The school was commonly referred to by the shorter name of SWC. The school is the only one in the city which at one time had a pool, which was later sold to the city. SWC was known for its academics and sport teams. During their last year of football, the senior boys won city championship. The school was closed in 2018, to be demolished.
Intermediate school is an uncommon term, and can either be a synonym for middle school (notably as used by the New York City public schools) or for schools that encompass the latter years of elementary education prior to middle school/junior high school, serving grades 3 or 4 through 5 or 6. Hammarskjold High School is the only secondary school within the Lakehead District School Board that offers the French immersion program. [2] The four year program includes classes in geography, physical education , civics and careers, Canadian history , food and nutrition, cooperative education , food and culture, and anthropology .
As an alternative to repeating a grade, some students delay entering college for a year by enrolling in a postgraduate program at a prep school after high school. [ 3 ] [ 18 ] [ 9 ] Some opt for a prep school due to academic issues, but that is not always the reason. [ 19 ]
