A bansuri is traditionally made from a single hollow shaft of bamboo with seven finger holes. Some modern designs come in ivory, fiberglass and various metals. The six hole instrument covers two and a half octaves of music. The bansuri is typically between 30 and 75 centimetres (12 and 30 in) in length, and the thickness of a human thumb.
In 1995, the sisters debuted in Bombay at the Sampoorna Yugal Sangeet Ratri music conference. The program was telecast and earned them recognition for their performance of Indian classical music on the bansuri. Bansuri: The Flute is a 2021 Indian Hindi-language drama film written and directed by Hari Viswanath. Produced by Mou Roychowdhury, the film stars Anurag Kashyap, Rituparna Sengupta and Upendra Limaye in major roles.
