This station once broadcast as WKPT-FM. The Federal Communications Commission assigned the WTFM call letters on September 6, 1982. [2] In January 1986, WTFM changed its format to soft adult contemporary. Its official slogans include "Better Music for a Better Workday" and "Your Official Listen At Work Station".
On March 17, 1997, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that eighty-eight stations had been given permission to move to newly available "Expanded Band" transmitting frequencies, ranging from 1610 to 1700 kHz, with WKTP authorized to move from 1590 to 1680 kHz. [4]
