On September 23, 1960, Community Research & Development Corporation (later to become The Rouse Company) opens the doors to North Star Mall, a new 250,000-square-foot (23,000 m 2) fully enclosed shopping center located at the intersection of San Pedro Avenue and Loop 13 (now Interstate 410 Connally Loop).
North Star Mall is anchored by Dillard's, Macy's, J.C. Penney, Saks Fifth Avenue, Forever 21 and The Cheesecake Factory. The San Antonio International Airport is at the center of Uptown at the intersection of I-410 and U.S. 281. Joske's sold the downtown Wolff and Marx building in 1968, and the building is now known as the Rand Building. The North Star Mall Wolff and Marx location was replaced in 1969 with a new five-level Joske's, its third San Antonio-area store.
