Edge Hill University is a campus-based public university in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England. The university, which originally opened in 1885 as Edge Hill College , was the first non-denominational teacher training college for women in England, before admitting its first male students in 1959.
Originally known as Skelmersdale & Ormskirk College, the college was originally an independently controlled institution, but was taken over by Newcastle College (now NCG) in 2007. [ 1 ] In August 2011, the college changed its name to West Lancashire College. [ 2 ]
Since Ormskirk does not have a parish council, a voluntary association, Ormskirk Community Partnership, was created in 2009, with the support of the West Lancashire Borough Council, to act as a voice for Ormskirk. [8] Ormskirk is home to Edge Hill University. [9]
