Willenhall is a market town in the Walsall district, in the county of the West Midlands, England, with a population taken at the 2021 Census of 49,587. It is situated between Wolverhampton and Walsall , historically in the county of Staffordshire .
In June 1905, an agreement was made with the Wolverhampton District Electric Company whereby Walsall Corporation tramcars would be allowed to work over their tracks into the Market Place at Willenhall. A junction was constructed at the Willenhall Board Schools, and Walsall tramcars first ran through to Willenhall Market Place on 19 July 1905. [3]
Expansion of the network continued through 1927, with trolleybuses reaching Neachells Lane, Willenhall on 15 May. This route was extended to Willenhall Market Place on 16 September, as there were plans for through running onto the Walsall system. A route to Penn Fields opened on 11 July, and another to Tettenhall on 29 October. [6]
Willenhall Stafford Street railway station was a station built by the Wolverhampton and Walsall Railway in 1872, [2] and was operated by the Midland Railway from 1876 onwards. It served the town of Willenhall, and was located to the north of the town centre. It was originally named Willenhall Market Place.
