The 128th New York Infantry Regiment, nicknamed Old Steady, was a volunteer regiment from Dutchess County and Columbia County in upstate New York, during the American Civil War. Formed in Hudson, New York, on September 5, 1862, by Col. David S. Cowles, the regiment was made up of volunteers from the surrounding towns and villages.
Dutchess County is a county in the U.S. state of New York.As of the 2020 census, the population was 295,911. [3] The county seat is the city of Poughkeepsie. [4] The county was created in 1683, one of New York's first twelve counties, [A] and later organized in 1713.
Among those eager to found such an organization at the time was Dutchess County resident Franklin D. Roosevelt.He laid out his vision for the Society in a letter dated December 10, 1914, mentioning a number of elements which came to fruition including an annual yearbook, occasional publications, and transcriptions of cemetery headstones.
