Ezetimibe/atorvastatin (trade names Liptruzet, Atozet) is a cholesterol lowering combination drug. In the United States, it was approved in May 2013, by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in patients with primary or mixed hyperlipidemia as adjunctive therapy to diet. [ 1 ]
Other side effects include granulocytopenia (dose dependent, which improves on cessation of the drug) and aplastic anemia, and in case of propylthiouracil, severe, fulminant liver failure. [20] Patients on these medications should see a doctor if they develop sore throat or fever. The most common side effects are rash and peripheral neuritis. [21]
Bempedoic acid/ezetimibe, sold under the brand name Nexlizet among others, is a fixed-dose combination medication used for the treatment of high cholesterol. With median follow-up of 6 years, simvastatin+ezetimibe was found to reduce the primary outcome of CV mortality, major CV event, or nonfatal stroke (34.7% vs. 32.7%; P=0.016; NNT 50 per 7 years or NNT 350 per 1 year ). There was no reduction in all-cause or CV mortality with simvastatin+ezetimibe, though there was a reduction in MI and stroke. [6]
Adding liothyronine to levothyroxine has been suggested as a measure to provide better symptom control, but this has not been confirmed by studies. [9] [16] [66] In 2007, the British Thyroid Association stated that combined T 4 and T 3 therapy carried a higher rate of side effects and no benefit over T 4 alone.
COX-2 selective inhibitors have fewer gastrointestinal side effects, but promote thrombosis, and some of these agents substantially increase the risk of heart attack. As a result, certain COX-2 selective inhibitors—such as rofecoxib —are no longer used due to the high risk of undiagnosed vascular disease . [ 11 ]
