Typographical symbols and punctuation marks are marks and symbols used in typography with a variety of purposes such as to help with legibility and accessibility, or to identify special cases. When the meaning depends on the syntax, a symbol may have different entries depending on the syntax. For summarizing the syntax in the entry name, the symbol is used for representing the neighboring parts of a formula that contains the symbol. See § Brackets for examples of use. Most symbols have two printed versions.

HTML and XML provide ways to reference Unicode characters when the characters themselves either cannot or should not be used.
