History. The agency was created on January 2, 1991, by virtue of Republic Act No. 6975, also known as the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990. Prior to its creation, the Office of Jail Management and Penology of then Philippine Constabulary - Integrated National Police was the agency handling the local penology of the Philippines.

The Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) is a women's prison located in F. Martinez Avenue, Mauway, Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines. The prison is operated by the Bureau of Corrections. [2] The prison first opened on a 18-hectare (44-acre) property on February 14, 1931. Previously, women inmates used to be held at the Old Bilibid Prison.
