The most common type of CVT uses a V-belt which runs between two variable-diameter pulleys. [2] The pulleys consist of two cone-shaped halves that move together and apart. The V-belt runs between these two halves, so the effective diameter of the pulley is dependent on the distance between the two halves of the pulley.

CVT was the only automatic option available in Europe; in Japan, the 1.0-litre models were also available with a traditional, four-speed automatic transmission. Airbags , antilock brakes , electric windows, central locking and air conditioning were as either standard equipment or options on some models in the Micra range. [ 12 ]
These have nominal charge capacities (C) of 1.1–2.8 Ah at 1.2 V, measured at the rate that discharges the cell in 5 hours. Useful discharge capacity is a decreasing function of the discharge rate, but up to a rate of around 1× C (full discharge in 1 hour), it does not differ significantly from the nominal capacity.
