In most European markets the 720 was sold as the Datsun PickUp (regular cab) or Datsun King Cab. As elsewhere in the world, the "Nissan" name gradually replaced Datsun in 1983 and 1984. The SD22 diesel in European trim produces 64 PS (47 kW; 63 hp) while the 1.8-liter L18-engined versions offered 80 PS (59 kW; 79 hp).

The Nissan Junior was a series of medium-sized pickup trucks built from 1956 until 1982. It was introduced to fill the gap between the smaller, Datsun Bluebird based Datsun Truck, and heavier load capacity Nissans under the Nissan Diesel brand, like the 80-series trucks.
Many parts, including the rear-axle and the power steering came from the Datsun 810 luxury sedan. [2] Most of the design effort went into the entirely different and much more modern interior. [ 3 ] The car became a grand tourer rather than a sports car, particularly in the plush Grand Luxury versions.
The TD27 was mainly fitted to a number of Nissan light duty commercial vehicles and was used as the most common diesel option in Nissan Homy, Caravan, and Urvan vans. Along with the TD23 and TD25, it was also fitted to the D21 series Datsun Truck (also known as Nissan Pickup, Navara, etcetera).
