During his high school and college years, Woods lifeguarded at the Siloam Springs municipal pool and Dawn Hill Country Club, where he also taught private swimming lessons. Upon graduation in 1996, Woods attended Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville.
As he did when founding the school in Siloam Springs, he deeded his home to the new school. The large home later became a point of conflict, as some of the town's people accused Brown of valuing the home at only $800 (equivalent to about $14,000 in 2024) to avoid paying more taxes on it.
