The stadium was later home to another soccer team, the New York/New Jersey MetroStars (now the New York Red Bulls) of Major League Soccer, who played there from 1996 to 2009. Giants Stadium closed following the 2009 NFL season following the construction of MetLife Stadium in the surrounding parking lot.
