Purgatory Resort is a ski resort located in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado, 25 miles (42 km) north of the town of Durango. Established in 1965, Purgatory offers 105 trails, including 5 terrain parks, over 1,500 skiable acres, and 12 lifts, including one six-person and two high speed quad lifts.
Purgatory Chasm is open to the public, although the chasm proper is closed to hikers during the winter season because of icy hazards. There are 2 miles (3.2 km) of hiking trails, and rock climbing is allowed by permit. The reservation also includes picnic areas, a visitor center, and a playground. [2]
Village Inn was founded by James Mola and Merton Anderson, who opened the first Village Inn Pancake House in Denver in 1958 at 8855 East Colfax Avenue. [5] [6] They incorporated as Village Inn Pancake House, Inc., in December 1959, and began franchising in 1961, with Dow Sherwood opening the first franchised locations in Tampa, Florida.
By 1976, Jerry Zurovski was managing a Village Inn location in Lincoln. Four years later, Jerry and Melanie had moved to Sioux Falls. They purchased the Village Inn from Donaldson on April 14, 1980.
The village was a stagecoach station on the Purgatory Branch of the Santa Fe Trail. With the establishment of Bent County in 1870, Boggsville became the county seat. The town was named for Thomas Oliver Boggs (1824-1894), an Indian trader from the Indian Territory and cattle dealer.
