Lonely Mine is a village in Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe and is located about 84 kilometres (52 mi) north-east of Bulawayo, just north of Inyati. [1] It was established in 1906 when gold was discovered in the area. Gold, nickel and tungsten are still mined in the area today. [2] [3]
The Athens and Falcon gold-copper mines are just south of Mvuma, within the east-west trending Umvuma greenstone belt, consisting of talcose, tremolitic, and chloritic schists. Claims were filed at Falcon in 1900, and mining of chalcopyrite , with a gold content of 6.7 gram per ton, took place from 1910 until 1926.
