The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is an agency of the European Union (EU) in charge of the evaluation and supervision of pharmaceutical products. Prior to 2004, it was known as the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products or European Medicines Evaluation Agency ( EMEA ).
The EMA was one part of the European Economic Community’s plan, which was to achieve overall economic integration in the long run. [2] The EMA contributed to this through the currency convertibility which established a pathway to a European common currency and a common central bank .
