The Vindhya Range (also known as Vindhyachal) (pronounced [ʋɪnd̪ʱjə]) is a complex, discontinuous chain of mountain ridges, hill ranges, highlands and plateau escarpments in west-central India. Technically, the Vindhyas do not form a single mountain range in the geological sense.
The South Central Highland can be divided into (a) Malwa Plateau, (b) Vindhya Scraplands, (c) Vindhya Range, and (d) Narmada Valley. The Aravalli range extends from Delhi south-west to near Ahmedabad for a distance of about 800 km. To the east of the Aravalli range lies the East Rajasthan Upland that ranges in height from 250 to 500 m.

It links the Deccan Plateau to the south with the Indo-Gangetic Plains and the Chota Nagpur Plateau to the north and east respectively. The plateau is part of the Vindhya Range in central India. [1]

[1] It was created in 1948 as Union of Baghelkhand and Bundelkhand States, shortly after Indian independence, from the territories of the princely states in the eastern portion of the former Central India Agency.
