I want to run Minecraft on my typical iMac with Mountain Lion (1.8.4) to have a second computer for multiplayer sessions, but I'm having many problems. I don't have the problem that most Mountain Lion users seem to have, where Minecraft is "damaged" and should be thrown away.
So, I had this problem myself and found out the solution. I'm making this post if anybody encounters the same problem.
2. I'm using MultiMC rather than the default launcher, so I'm not sure what the equivalent of reinstalling Minecraft would be - delete the dat and jar files from the versions folder? 3. Even if it works (which could take a while to be sure of), it wouldn't explain why the problem was happening.

I fortunately have access to another computer so what I did was I logged into my java account on that computer and downloaded minecraft(the launcher did work when i booted up a random 1.19 world) I then took the files from .minecraft in roaming and copied the asset folder and put it in my onedrive and then I went back to my computer and took ...

The "Downloading Content" screen is for a different resource pack because the "Minecraft Texture Update Beta" pack download is too quick to grab a screenshot, so I had to choose an alternate pack to show that it does actually download.
