Western Seminary opened its doors in 1927 at Hinson Memorial Church (Eastside Baptist then) in Oregon. Then the seminary moved down to Salmon Street before moving up on Mt. Tabor.
Our History. Through the efforts of Walter B. Hinson, the Portland Baptist Bible Institute was organized in the winter of 1925. In 1926, efforts began to replace the Bible Institute with a graduate-level seminary to provide more adequate theological education in the Northwest.
Western Seminary offers advanced degree options for ministry leaders, educators, and pastors seeking a professional degree to further equip them for whatever ministry God has called them to. These post-graduate degrees are offered through our Portland campus and build upon a master's degree.
