That said, I installed a 3-person Transit seat in my cargo van, using L-track and mounting the Transit factory floor mounts to it. Yes, you have to drill and bolt through the floor, and use backing plates under the van. You need to drop the gas tank to reach the center mount locations. I removed my center leg because I felt it was overkill.
Hey fellow transit friends, I have myself a wonderful 2021 AWD Transit (148wb, high roof) conversion (100% self-designed and built). As you can see from the CAT scale report, I'm really pushing the max gross weight of this van and let me tell you, we can feel it. Replaced the stock front bumper with a modified fiberglass air dam/ bumper from a Ford Mustang. Had to widen it about 8 inches and mold the top and wheel arches into the new bumper. Repainted the black van with a blue metal flake and 7 coats of clear over top. Upgraded to Billstein B6 shocks, Powerstop slotted brake discs.
In the 2021 Ford Transit Towing guide, I'm only seeing up to a 13,000 GCWR for the Transit van-body van in any form. That rating is with the dual wheels (but still a van body). That's better than 12,600# but not by an appreciable amount. I only see it going up to 15,000# GCWR on the "Chassis cab" and "Cutaway" page. (See screen shots below)
I am just starting my Ford Transit van build, and for my needs, I need more modularity and flexibility with less-permanently installed gear (no roof rack, electrical provided by portable solar panels and Goal Zero battery, removable seats, etc.). A collection of these awning products are helpful to me.
