The animators rotoscoped pictures of Jahan to Snoopy. Schulz's 12 year old daughter Jill was said to have inspired the "She's in Shape" sequence when Schulz drew images. The special's cast would go on to provide the voices on the second season of The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show, save for Gary Golen, who would be replaced by Danny Colby.
The film was announced on the NBC broadcast of the 84th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade when a Snoopy balloon (in his flying ace outfit) passed by. One of the hosts of the broadcast, Meredith Vieira announced the film by saying "Snoopy fans will be happy to know that next year, a new Peanuts animation will be flying your way." [5]
