The church was built as a chapel of ease between 1822–23 to a design by Thomas Rickman. [2] [3] The church was famous for its sixteen stained glass windows depicting scenes of the life of Jesus and stories from the scriptures, including the Raising of Lazarus, The Resurrection, The Good Samaritan and St Paul and St Barnabas, [4] which were also designed by Thomas Rickman.
