LaGuardia Community College is a public community college in New York City. It is in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens in and part of the City University of New York . LaGuardia is named after former congressman and New York City mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia .
Suffolk County Community College was founded in 1959 and has three campuses: Selden, Brentwood and Riverhead. It also has a satellite center in downtown Riverhead. The school was founded largely through the efforts of Albert Ammerman who was the college's president from its founding in December 1959 until 1983.
The college was chartered in 1912 as a school of applied agriculture under the name of New York State School Of Agriculture on Long Island. As of the fall semester of 2016, Farmingdale State College had an enrollment of 9,237.
