A Royal Air Force flight sergeant. Flight sergeant (commonly abbreviated to Flt Sgt, F/Sgt, FSGT or, currently correctly in the RAF, FS [1]) is a senior non-commissioned rank in the Royal Air Force [2] and several other air forces which have adopted all or part of the RAF rank structure.
RAF Flight Sergeants: Although technically equivalent to British Army Staff Sergeant this does not equate to time served or experience since the RAF does not have the rank of WO2. The RN created the rate of Warrant Officer Class 2 on 1 April 2004.

Chief technician (Chf Tech or formerly C/T) is a senior non-commissioned rank in the Royal Air Force which is only held by aviators in technical trades and by musicians. [1] It is between sergeant and flight sergeant and, like the latter has a NATO code of OR-7. Aviators in non-technical trades progress directly from sergeant to flight sergeant.
Upon the formation of the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918, rank titles and badges for ORs were adopted from the British Army, specifically the Royal Flying Corps (RFC). [2] The RFC ranks of Flight Sergeant (equivalent to Staff Sergeant ), Sergeant , Corporal and Air Mechanic were directly adopted.
