The following table of United States cities by crime rate is based on Federal Bureau of Investigation Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) statistics from 2019 for the 100 most populous cities in America that have reported data to the FBI UCR system. [1] The population numbers are based on U.S. Census estimates for the year end.
Using FBI data for 2023-2024, Cincinnati ranks 14th in the 100 most populous cities in the U.S. for overall crime rate (includes both violent and property crime). [6] Homicides reached a record high 96 in 2020, [7] and the record was matched in 2021. [8] There were 87 homicides in 2022; of those, 78 involved a firearm. [7]
